cw: discussions of transphobia, homophobia, racism, ableism in healthcare, discussion of nursing as a profession, gore, self-harm, suicide, guns, medical imagery

I wrote all of this in this little red notebook they handed out at a nurse recruiting event.  I didn't get the job. Basically, these poems are fragments of my life as it is right now. I'm trans, in the Midwest, and a soon-to-be registered nurse. Things kind of suck, for obvious reasons, but I promise I'm not completely miserable to be around.

this was beautiful and relatable and hard hitting and powerful. it was also really interesting as someone who hasnt thought about what being trans in the medical field would be like. thank you for this work, it was incredible. your impact is precious

i have no idea how to truly express how i felt while reading this, but i just know i felt something and i felt it strong. this was just...incredible to read, i loved it so much. your writing is so powerful, i cried twice. thank you thank you thank you for writing this magnificient piece of art.

because i am very mature, my first response is “lmao gay” bc i am not yet good at accepting praise but my second response is that i’m glad that you felt strongly about this. the poetry i like is poetry that makes me feel. if i can do that, i feel like i’m doing well.

"frankenstein was trans. so was his monster." by fossil (twitter/tumblr). I am a trans person who was raised in a conservative Catholic family with a parent from the Midwest, so when I read the synopsis I knew I was going to relate. "What If You Were Trans in a Field Where Trans People Are Seen as Medical Oddities. What If You Grew Up in a Somewhat Conservative Midwestern Catholic Family. What If You Really Like Dressing Wounds. What If You Probably Have Some Stuff to Work Out Where Other People Can't See.". I was right, fossil really delivered. 19 pages of hard-hitting HONEST poetry about the ways doctors treat trans/non-cis people less than human ... and all the ways it shows you something about humanity we pretend isn't there. It's been one of my favorites so far.
